Biography, Kristen "Kay" Middleton
Kristen "Kay" Middleton is a mental health clinician, educator, and mother of two school-age children. She is completing her Psy.D. in Combined School and Clinical Psychology at Kean University, where her research examines the impact of technology on family mental health.
Through her work providing therapy and psychological assessments for children, adolescents, adults, and Veterans, Kristen has seen firsthand the growing mental health challenges facing young people. Her passion for protecting children and families from the harms of excessive screen use, social media, and emerging technologies inspired her to found NJ STAT Alliance (Stop Technology Attacking Teens). She also serves as the West Essex Chapter Leader for MAMA: Moms Against Media Addiction.
A lifelong New Jerseyan, Kristen is a graduate of Montclair High School and Yale University, where she was an Ivy League Champion in women's lacrosse. She is committed to advancing research, education, and advocacy that help children thrive in a healthier digital world.
Kristen Middleton founded NJ STAT Alliance after recognizing a critical gap: despite growing research on technology’s effects on children’s mental health, much of it was not reaching the families, educators, and policymakers who needed it most.
